Vintage French Tea Towel / Canvas Fabric with Red Stripes - Vintage Grainsack Table Runner - Upholstery and Craft Project - Sold by the Yard

Tea towels, or "torchon" as we call them in France, became common in the late 19th century and was a big component of the household linen. They were either made of hemp, linen, cotton, or métis (minimum 45% linen, rest cotton). Depending on its composition, a towel could be quite thick and stiff, with the appearance and feel of canvas. This is the true luxury of natural fibers that is so hard to find nowadays.

This particular tea towel fabric is made of a beautiful sturdy pure linen cloth that will become softer as you wash it. Its design comprises of 5 red stripes on both sides. Perfect to use as a table runner or for any craft and restoration projects. I have not washed this fabric because of it's size. It is clean, and has just a very little spots of rust that would come off with a wash. Care instruction are provided with your purchase.
